Project story
Two upstairs rooms that never cooled in Leon Valley
Two bedrooms stayed warm because of a disconnected duct and a crushed run. Airflow, not the equipment, was the cause.
-
The problem
Two bedrooms at the far end of the house had always been noticeably warmer than the rest. The homeowner had been told before that a bigger system would fix it.
-
What we found
The system itself was working normally. In the attic, the duct to one bedroom had come loose from its ceiling boot and was blowing cool air into the attic, and the run to the other was crushed behind stored boxes.
-
The options
Reconnect and seal the loose duct and replace the crushed section, and if the rooms were still warm, look at adding return air to them. A larger system was not needed for this problem.
-
What was done
The loose duct was reattached and sealed, the crushed section was replaced with new insulated duct, the runs were straightened and strapped, and the registers were balanced.
-
The outcome
Both rooms now stay much closer to the rest of the house, with the same equipment. The homeowner moved the storage boxes away from the duct runs.
